Mini Aussies ~ Small Dogs with Big Dog Attitudes
The Standard Australian Shepherd
The Australian Shepherd measures between 18 and 23 inches at the shoulders, females being 18 to 21 inches and males being 20 to 23 inches. Females usually weigh 40 to 55 pounds and males usually weigh between 50 and 65 pounds.
The Miniature Australian Shepherd
The Mini Aussie measures between 14 and 18 inches at the shoulders and usually weighs between 20 and 35 lbs. Males tend to be larger than females. Other than size, there should be no difference in structure or temperament between an standard and a Mini Aussie!
The Toy Australian Shepherds
The size range for the Toy Australian Shepherd is between 10 and 14 inches measured at the highest point of the withers. The ideal size being around 12 inches, dogs or bitches below 10 inches will be disqualified. Any dog or bitch that is 14 inches will be considered a Miniature.
